In 2020 it will be 150 years since the Matthew-Passion was first performed by Toonkunst Rotterdam in the Netherlands. This laid the foundation for the performance tradition of this masterpiece by J.S. Bach, which was widely enjoyed in the Netherlands. On March 5th the cityproject is opened by alderman Kasmi, in the central hall of Rotterdam Central Station. Throughout the month of March, Toonkunst Rotterdam organises an easily accessible festival: Bach goes to the neighbourhoods, a sing-along day is organised at the Laurenskerk, school children take part and there is a closing concert in de Doelen on March 28th, were a part of the audience will join in the special performance of the Matthaus Passion.
